This Position Paper reflects our stance on the Gender Responsiveness of Nigeria’s 2025 Budget. Drawing on budget data, policy reviews, and insights from gender desk officers across MDAs, the paper reveals that despite increased references to women and gender, Nigeria’s national budget remains largely symbolic rather than transformative.
It highlights critical gaps between policy commitments and actual funding, exposes the over-reliance on tokenistic “empowerment” projects, and examines underfunding in key sectors such as health, education, and agriculture.
